The Ashford - Tackle Shop
Ashford Tackle (Ashford branch) is the largest of our 3 tackle shops with 2 floors of fishing tackle from hooks right though to
bivvies set up on display in our large showroom.
Located on the outskirts of Ashford and just a 3 minute drive from the town centre and Mcarthur Glen outlet centre, we are easy to find and have ample parking right outside the tackle shop.
We have a full range of Carp, Pike, Match and Sea fishing tackle and also a small range of
Catfish Tackle and Fly tackle, from all of the major fishing tackle suppliers.
Fresh bait is always available in the shop, whether it be boilies and pellet for the carp anglers, maggots, casters and groundbait for the pleasure/match angler or fresh, local black lug and a full range of frozen sea and pike baits for the sea and pike anglers.
We have 5 full time, friendly members of staff who can all offer their knowledge of their specific form of the sport, most of whom are all-rounders and so will be able to help with all aspects of fishing tackle, bait and tactics.
Allan Thornby, manager of the tackle shop, is an all-rounder and has experience in just about all forms of the sport. He started as a pleasure angler 20 years ago and has since been involved in the match fishing circuit. His carp fishing started around ten years ago and was lucky enough to qualify for the British Carp Angling Championships final at the first attempt. His involvement in sea fishing has been ongoing and was a regular in Ashford Tackle’s sea match group and won their league in 2001. More recently he has started fly fishing and has spent most of the last 2 summers fishing a local water for catfish.
Ray Harris, the Managing Director, who spends most of his time in the Ashford Branch, is heavily involved in the match fishing scene and fishes matches every week. He also has 40 years of carp fishing experience in both the UK and also France, and has also recently spent time on the rivers fishing for both Barbel and Chub. He was also involved, along with his business partner, Kirby Dyson-Dowling and Terry Dale from our Faversham branch, in the capture of the largest freshwater fish ever landed on rod and line, a White sturgeon of around 1000lb from the Fraser River in Canada. The sea fishing side of Rays experience is slightly less, however, he as been known to upset a few of the regular sea anglers by beating them in their own competitions.
Our storeman, Chris Smelt, is an out-and-out match angler and has over 40 years experience and regularly frames in the weekly matches he fishes.
Richard Howland has been a carp angler for many years now and again has plenty of experience in both the UK and France. He has also started sea fishing and is broadening his sea fishing knowledge very quickly.
Richard Rowe is our bait and beverage manager and is in charge of keeping our bait in top quality, he has only done a small amount of sea fishing but makes up for it with his quick wit and humour.
We pride ourselves on a happy, helpful service and look forward to seeing you soon for a cup of tea and a chat.
